Thoughts for the New Year

If there has ever been a more simple way to describe the plight of the worst of worst PT, this post says it all.

Here, here to high quality PT in 2008 that elevates the PT profession, health care system, and the consumers we serve.

Happy New Year from EIM!

Quote of the Week

I have argued already that we must seek the basic science that helps to explain our clinical findings, rather than trying to force patients to fit our basic science. I find it encouraging that so many health professionals from such different backgrounds have reached so much common ground - and that it fits modern neurophysiology.

Quote of the Week

"We are seeing a revolution growing out of the old orthopedic concept of the 'dynasty of the disc' into a more integrated biopsychosocial model of back pain."

-Alf Nachemson MD, 1998

I just had a conversation with a newly-trained McKenzie practitioner this week. He told me all about lateral and posterolateral componenets of disc pathology responsible for peripheral pain and the mechanical diagnostic process. It makes me wonder, where's the revolution?  Any comments?

To piggyback Larry's last post, here's the famous quote that lead to term "Pyrrhic Victory":

"Another such victory over the Romans, and we are undone."

- Pyrrhus, Greek Military Commander

Just insert "CMS" for "The Romans" and you're all set...

Quote of the Week

"Too often people helplessly shrug their shoulders in the midst of adverse circumstances, saying, "It must be God's will..." Not so the courageous leader who understands God's will and who understands that many things in our present experience STANDS IN OPPOSITION TO GOD'S WILL. Therefore, the courageous leader prepares himself or herself as if for BATTLE, knowing that the outcome IS NOT FIXED, that CHANGE IS POSSIBLE, that hindrances CAN BE OVERCOME, that REALITY CAN BE TRANSFORMED - but only as obstacles are overcome. This is where courage must be exercised!"

- Teddy Roosevelt

Quote of the Week

“Assessment and understanding are assisted by asking questions based on believing that the body can inform the patient about aspects of his disorder that cannot be found on examination.”
