Extra! Extra! The Kinsinger Report on Chiropractic

No I am not talking about the Kinsey Report, though I do hope this report is as widely viewed! I would encourage all bloggers to check out Dr. Bill Kinsinger's report on the history and practice of chiropractic. It can be viewed by going to the University of Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Sciences or directly at this link (be patient the file may take a litttle time to load).   For those bloggers that think I am belittling all chiropractors I will refer to Samuel Homola, DC who I qoute from an excellent commentary published in the Journal of Manual & Manipulative Therapy- "Until the chiropractic profession as a whole is properly defined and specialized, and its practitioners uniformly limited in use of acceptable treatment methods, across the board cooperation between evidence-based manual therapists and chiropractors is not feasible."

Dave

We at the University of Oklahoma just completed another successful Spinal Manipulation Update course series with Peter Gibbons and Philip Tehan. The Kinsinger Report on Chiropractic was included in the program. We also viewed a recently televised special report on chiropractic posted at:

http://www.myfoxdc.com/myfox/MyFox/pages/sidebar_video.jsp?contentId=5888684&version=1&locale=EN-US

Each of the persons interviewed in the special report is included in the Neck911USA database of stroke survivors and families of those who did not survive.

Dear Future Doctors of Physical Therapy,

Most of this propaganda espoused by Bill Kisinger is patently false and deceptive. You may notice the good doctor repeatedly prefaces his disparaging comments with “in my opinion as a layperson”. He stands before you as a credentialed MD, yet has to qualify his anti-chiropractic rhetoric and mistruths because he could be de-licensed for making these false statements in his official capacity as a licensed MD.

An independent (not conducted or funded by any chiropractor or chiropractic organization) population-based, case-control and case-crossover study published in the prestigious scientific journal Spine found no evidence of excess risk of VBA stroke associated chiropractic care compared to primary care.

The study is available here:
http://www.spinejournal.com/pt/re/spine/abstract.00007632-200802151-00019.htm

The scientific evidence shows chiropractic to be safe, contrary to what Bill Kisinger would have you believe. The balance of his presentation was as inaccurate as his statements regarding safety. Think for yourselves, check the facts and you will arrive at the truth regarding the integrity and professionalism of our nation’s chiropractors. Do not be misled by propaganda espoused by someone with a hidden agenda.

Sincerely,
Herb Newborg

Herb:
You stated, “An independent (not conducted or funded by any chiropractor or chiropractic organization) population-based, case-control and case-crossover study published in the prestigious scientific journal Spine found no evidence of excess risk of VBA stroke associated chiropractic care compared to primary care.”
First of all this statement is inaccurate. Two of the authors were Chiropractors including the lead author. Secondly the jury is still out on cervical manipulation and stroke. Other studies suggest that there may be a link:

Another Chiropractor in this same prestigious journal stated, “Our results suggest that adverse reactions to chiropractic care for neck pain are common and that despite somewhat imprecise estimation, adverse reactions appear more likely to follow cervical spine manipulation than mobilization. Given the possible higher risk of adverse reactions and lack of demonstrated effectiveness of manipulation over mobilization, chiropractors should consider a conservative approach for applying manipulation to their patients, especially those with severe neck pain.” See link http://www.spinejournal.com/pt/re/spine/abstract.00007632-200507010-00003.htm;jsessionid=LLrTkv0RJzSTtvPC6HpQ3hxn58KTT2dNgRm2tvHkdqhh6pk401R0!670793751!181195628!8091!-1

Whiplash is caused by an abrupt jerking motion of the head, either backward or forward, and often occurs as a result of a car accident. Can also occur with sudden fall, riding a roller coaster, etc.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is an extension of car insurance available in some U.S. states that covers medical expenses and, in some cases, lost wages and other damages. PIP is sometimes referred to as “no-fault” coverage, because the statutes enacting it are generally known as no-fault laws, and PIP is designed to be paid without regard to “fault,” or more properly, legal liability. PIP is also called “no-fault” because, by definition, a claimant’s, or insured’s, insurance premium should not increase due to a PIP claim. -Wikipedia

Chiropractic treatment is one of the best methods for treating numerous health problems naturally. After years of experience being a chiropractor, I have found that it is a powerful way to solve many pain conditions, like headaches, neck pain and back pain, as well as many non-pain condition as well, such as fatigue, sleep problems, and sinus problems.
