Insurance Reimbursement & the KISS Principle

This piece illustrates how "Keep It Simple Stupid" really means "Keep'em In Suspense & Stupid" for Wonkonians and Gekkonians, that venerable bunch currently charged with making TPA related matters better (uhhhmm, for them selves).

  How about a 3rd alternative?  Direct Employer contracting and billing: way overdue and a concept whose time has come.

This already occurs in some of the larger employers, i.e. Lockheed Martin contracts out to the lowest bidder for physical therapy services. I think what it would come down to is convincing other employers to do the same. It should be relatively easy to sell the idea to an organization that is self insured - I'm not so sure about the others. I look forward to seeing how you guys do with Fit for Work.

Isn't the lowest bidder always the USPT's and HealthSouths of the world? How many times can these companies be put on Medicare review and be found guilty of fraudulent billing practices before people stop contracting with them?
The public-at-large still does not have a favorable opinion physical therapy. Nor are they aware of how QUALITY PT can help them save money in the long run.
