Ultrasound Imaging Symposium and Conference
The US Army-Baylor University Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy will be hosting a Rehabilitation Ultrasound Imaging (USI) Symposium next week (Mon-Wed) in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Deydren Teyhen, one of our active EIM bloggers and expert in the field of ultrasound imaging, has done an incredible job organizing the conference. Other course organizers include Kyle Kiesel, Jackie Whittaker, Skip Gill, and SSG Robert Torbert. The first of its kind in the world, participants include leading international experts around the world in the field of ultrasound imaging and clinical research:
Dr. John Childs
Mr. Jim Elliott
Dr. Timothy Flynn
Dr. Julie Fritz
Dr. Skip Gill
Dr. Haldis Haug Dahl
Dr. Sharon Henry
Mr. Kyle Kiesel
Dr. Julie Hides
Dr. Paul Hodges
Dr. Helene Langevin
Dr. Guy Simoneau
Dr. Maria Stokes
Dr. Deydre Teyhen
Dr. Judith Thompson
Dr. Julie Whitman
Ms. Jackie Whittaker
Evidence in Motion extends a special welcome to our international attendees. We are truly fortunate to have such a distinguished crowd willing to contribute 3 days out of their extremely hectic professional lives to be with us. Delegates represent 5 countries and 12 universities around the world. Among the delegates, we are fortunate to have Dr. Guy Simoneau, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, in attendance. Dr. Tim Flynn, EIM blogger and President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic and Manual Physical Therapists will also be with us.
The purpose of this meeting is to develop best practice guidelines for the use of USI for the abdominal, pelvic, and posterior spine muscles and develop an international and collaborative research agenda related to the use of USI. A rehabilitative ultrasound imaging conference for approximately 40 Army PTs will follow the symposium (Wednesday-Friday). The information gleaned from the symposium (Mon-Wed) will be used in the later half of the week to educate Army PTs how to use ultrasound imaging to enhance rehabilitation.
We look forward to 'broadcasting live' from San Antonio to provide EIM bloggers daily reports on the conference. Feel free to post questions to participants as comments to this post. Depending on the number of questions, we will make every effort to respond to each one. We look forward to hearing from you throughout the week.
On behalf of the EIM Team and bloggers around the world, we extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Teyhen and her team. This conference simply would have never happened without Dr. Teyhen's vision and tireless efforts in seeking it through. I got exhausted watching her organize it! Our profession will look back on this meeting as the catalyst for an international collaboration in an emerging practice domain with substantial implications for research and clinical practice. On behalf of the EIM Team, here's a toast to the meeting kick off!
An overview of the meeting is attached. Let us know if you have any questions.

This sounds like a terrific symposium and one that I would have loved to attend. (It's always great to hear another aussie accent).
Is the symposium closed and only available to Baylor DPT students? Why wasn't it advertized widely so that interested therapists could consider attending? Maybe it was advertized but I didn't see it anywhere?

Louie:
The first part of the meeting was more of a research planning meeting among investigators around the world inolved in ultrasound imaging research. The clinical component of the meeting (2nd part, and ongoing now)was unfortunately only available to DoD physical therapists, hence why there was no advertising. Efforts are underway to design similar courses that would be available for open registration. Stay tunded.

Thanks for clarifying that John. I look forward to reading some of the 'live broadcasts' from the symposium. Heck... I wish I wasn't so old so I could join the Military and get to go to this!
(Do they recruit 48 yr olds?!)

Carlos:
The conference component (last half of the week) was only open to Army therapists at clinics who were receiving an ultrasound device, hence why it was not advertised.
